Doug Widener is the Director of Community Advancement at the U.S. Green Building Council. In this role he manages USGBC's Community Advancement Department that is responsible for supporting USGBC's 77 chapters across the U.S. including training, governance, volunteer engagement and collaborative initiatives between chapters. He also oversees USGBC's grants program for chapters, the Emerging Professionals program, and supports volunteers across the USGBC community.
He works closely with other USGBC departments to help integrate USGBC's work with its chapters related to core business functions and mission areas including membership, education, advocacy, and green schools. Prior to joining USGBC in August of 2012, Doug spent six years as the Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council - Illinois Chapter. In this role he was responsible for the management of the organization and its staff; oversight and implementation of the Chapter's programs, events and initiatives; as well as financial planning, budgeting, and strategic planning.
