USGBC has worked with the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront to implement a sustainable event program for Convergence 2016. Our goals for this meeting are to decrease the overall environmental impact of the meeting while focusing on metric tracking and waste diversion.

Below is a summary of the key sustainability initiatives for Convergence at USGBC 2016.

Carbon Offset

Carbon offsets

To offset emissions for attendee travel and hotel stay, we provided attendees the opportunity to purchase carbon offsets through the registration process. For just $5 attendees helped offset the impact of their participation at Convergence. Our goal was to offset 100 percent of the total carbon emissions generated by the Convergence attendee travel and hotel stays.

  • What you can do: Purchase carbon offsets for your travel and hotel stay in registration for $5. To further reduce your carbon emissions, take mass transportation, turn off lights and pack light.

We are currently working to implement a composting program.

Room servicing

Room servicing

USGBC has requested that the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront only service occupied guest rooms upon guest request or after three days of stay. Eliminating automatic daily housekeeping will conserve energy, water, and reduce material use.

  • What you can do: We’ve created this program to make it easy for you to participate—all guests will automatically be enrolled. To minimize your impact, do not request room cleaning! You are welcome to request additional towels, shampoo, etc. at any time.

Recycling receptacles

Recycling receptacles

Co-mingled in-room recycling will be available in all guest rooms. Additional recycling receptacles will be available throughout the hotel and meeting spaces.

  • What you can do: Be sure to recycle all paper, plastic and metal items!

A shuttle provided transportation for attendees between the Jacksonville airport and the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. This mass transit option helped reduce the meeting’s carbon footprint. USGBC will not reimburse attendees for cab rides, or other forms of transportation and encourages attendees to take the airport shuttle.

  • What you can do: Take the shuttle from the airport for your arrival and departure. Take public transportation in your home city when possible.
